Travellers
heading to London may not know anyone living in the capital, but they will
certainly be familiar with the famous residents of the Royal Family. The city
has many superb landmarks and attractions that are well worth visiting. These
places are ideal for the whole family or with a group of friends. The first
place to obviously head is the world-famous Buckingham Palace that is the
official home of the Queen. This regal residence opens its doors to the public
throughout the months of August and September where tourists can go on a tour
of the impressive State Rooms. Guests to the palace will also adore the special
exhibition there that changes annually.
Visitors
should time their trip well to visit the palace when the Changing of the Guard
takes place usually every morning at 11.30am. This is a fascinating ceremony
where the palace’s sentries are formally swapped over for new guards through a
choreographed procedure. A brilliant destination for families is the Tower of
London that is housed in a very interesting building, which has been home to
many awful deaths and beheadings. Tourists can also see the crown jewels as
well as the lovely White Tower that was created by William the Conqueror. This
attraction offers great education into the history of the building and what
happened there.
For
some relaxation travellers should definitely venture to one of the Royal Parks.
There are eight in total and probably the most famous is Hyde Park that is
great to have a walk, cycle, go horse-riding or take a boat out on the glorious
Serpentine Lake. Near the water is the lovely Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial
Fountain and tourists should also take a trip to the gorgeous Kensington
Gardens, based adjacent to the park. Here guests can find the magnificent 18th
century Kensington Palace that is ideal for lunch. The Orangery is a stunning
place to eat known for its amazing afternoon tea that uses fruit from its own
orchard for the scones.
The
palace is the London home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and
Kate, who stay there along with their children Prince George and Princess
Charlotte. Guests will love to see the state apartments, as well as the
permanent exhibition called Victoria Revealed that tells the story of Queen
Victoria’s life and reign. For something very special tourists should head to
Fortnum & Mason that is the fascinating department store known to be the
Queen’s shop of choice. The Fountain Restaurant is a great place to head to for
an evening meal, while the amazing store itself has many excellent products for
travellers to buy as souvenirs or gifts.
Tourists
staying in London will want to be close to all the action where there is easy
access to numerous sights and landmarks. There are many excellent hotels in Sussex Gardens but one of the
best is the Kingsway Park Hotel that’s ideal for business and leisure
travellers. This is close to all the royal attractions in its location in
Paddington. It offers fabulous rooms with mini-fridges and en-suite bathrooms
with hairdryers. There are a range of modern amenities on offer to guests in
the spacious rooms including Wi-Fi internet, a telephone and a digital
television.
